If you’re an Outlander fan, you’ve heard of New Bern, NC. If you’re a Nicholas Sparks fan, you know that he lives and works here. If you’re a fan of Pepsi, you may know it was invented here. If you’re not a fan of any of it, then simply come to be in awe of this historic little town we love.

Miami is a massive melting pot of people, cultures, and vibes. While there is something for everyone, this high-energy city is best for a weekend, though you may need a vacation from this vacation.

Atlantic Beach is one of the more peaceful respites when it comes to east coast beaches. It’s within minutes of great restaurants, historic areas, and so much more.
Exploring Washington, NC
What do Cecille B. DeMille, Roy Rogers, Joseph Bonner, and a famous ghost all have in common? They’ve all been a part of Washington, NC’s history. Stuck in the 1770s-1950s, this town is (and continues to be) impeccably restored as though you’re time traveling while walking down the street.
Exploring Middleburg, VA
Since 1728, Middleburg has (mostly) been a place of peaceful respite for the well-to-do, as well as the most renowned hunt and steeplechase area in the country. Every time we go, we never want to leave.
Exploring Frederick, MD
Frederick is one of those colonial and Civil War-era towns that looks like it was nearly untouched. With beautiful red brick buildings, cobblestone roads, and hidden signs of bygone eras, it’s a wonderful way to spend a day!
Exploring Estes Park, CO
Estes Park is best known for its “role” in The Shining however, it’s real history is far less spooky. It’s a great way to spend a weekend, steeped in turn-of-the-century times.
Exploring Durango, CO
Durango is one of those movie-quality western towns that everyone needs to see at least once. Nestled in the mountains, within a reasonable driving distance from many states, it offers a great weekend experience!
Exploring Denver, CO
If there’s one word that can describe this mile-high city, it’s “growth”. Like any city, it faced its ups and downs, but it’s one of few that continues its comeback story even better than before. If you love history, food, and the excitement of what’s around you, then this city is for you!
Exploring Cortez/Mesa Verde, CO
Cortez’s and Mesa Verde’s histories span over 11,000 years when Native Americans owned the land. And, somehow, much of this history is still preserved in the beautiful national parks these towns still have. It’s worth the stop - especially to see the ancient pueblos!
Exploring Boulder, CO
Boulder is a beautiful, artsy town, nestled in the Colorado mountains. It’s a great way to spend an afternoon, leisurely taking in the sights of Pearl Street, or exploring abandoned areas.
Exploring Winston-Salem, NC
Visiting Winston-Salem is like diving head-first into a time capsule. Both the downtown area, as well as the historic area, are so well-preserved that you feel like a time traveler, going from the 1700s all the way through the 1940s. It’s just that cool.
Exploring Raleigh, NC
Raleigh is a former heavy industrial city-turned “hipster’s paradise” with restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, and cocktail bars throughout. It made for a great weekend getaway that we can’t wait to visit again.

I hate western films but love historic western towns! Mesilla and Las Cruces, NM are time capsules rich with vigilante and cowboy history.
Exploring Sedona, AZ
Sedona is what made me move here. There’s something magical, almost supernatural about it, drawing you in every chance it gets. It’s forever my spiritual place.
Exploring Cottonwood, AZ
Nestled between Jerome and Sedona is our favorite little town, Cottonwood. While it doesn’t look like much, it’s filled with mining history, wine tasting rooms, and incredible restaurants. Eating dinner in a former insane asylum, followed by touring a theater with a gruesome past, makes Jerome feel like Halloween every day.
